Few weeks after twin elections into Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) board was held, Shehu Ibrahim Gusau has remained the Vice President of Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) according to the information on World Athletics (WA) governing body website.
In separate elections which was held in Kebbi and Abuja simultaneously on June 14th by two different factions of the AFN produces Shehu Ibrahim Gusau re-elected for another four year tenure and Tonobock Okowa as new president respectively.
The Okowa faction has since enjoy the backing of Ministry of Sports with the Sports Minister Sunday Dare on hand to offer a word of admonition and expressing his unflinching support for the new board during the inuaguration of Okowa-led board, while the Gusau led board has been left in isolation thus far.
However, a cursory look at the website of WA- World Athletics governing body has the name of Shehu Ibrahim Gusau recognized as the 5th vice president of CAA-Confederation of African Athletics from Nigeria behind Moses Bantsi of Botswana, Abdelhakim Dib of Algeria, Bruno Konga and Aminata Sangare Keita both from Central Africa Republic and Mali respectively.
As the Olympic games in Tokyo, Japan approaches it's left to be seen which faction of the AFN will be fully endorsed and work with by World Athletics.
