Nobody has ever been in better position to become CAF president than Amaju Pinnick- Gara Gombe

Former Gombe Football Association Chairman Ahmed Shuaibu  Gara Gombe has thrown his weight and support behind Ammaju Pinnick to contest for the Presidency of CAF in next year election, CMSports can report.

In an interview session on Jordan FM, Lagos monitored by our correspondent Gara Gombe, who is also a former member of the NFF Reforms Committee, emphasize that Amaju Melvin Pinnick has all it takes to become first Nigerian to assume the exalted post of CAF president.

      Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe

"I can tell you clearly, no president of CAF from Isaah Hayathou to Ahmad Ahmad that have established or have done very well in their various country's football administrations before they got to that (CAF President) position.

"Throughout the tenure of Issah Hayatou as president of CAF what was his antecedent in Camerounian football? Nothing.
Same thing with Ahmad Ahmad. He was a former referee, what was his antecedent in Madagascar football? Nothing.

"Your performance in your country's local football administration or management has nothing to do with your chances to contest for the election of CAF because it is a different ball game entirely, it is a different politics.

Gara Gombe believes that the incessant crisis that engulfs Amaju Pinnick's NFF led board has nothing to do with his chances of becoming the CAF President.

"Whatever is happening to Nigeria League or Nigeria football at it is today, and the management of Nigeria Football Federation which Amaju is leading has no bearing with whatever the chances of Amaju or any Nigerian for that matter to contest in CAF because it is a different politics.

"At some point in time, before Amaju fell out with Ahmad Ahmad, he was in charge of AFCON technical organising committee. He has a very good relationship with almost all the presidents, almost all the stakeholders, almost all the delegates, I saw it in Morocco how Amaju related with them. If Amaju manages it well and maintain his relationship he has a brighter chances.

"Ahmad Ahmad now has a broken relationship and goodwill with a lot of delegates and President of the federations. He is also deeply enmeshed in scandal about the management of finances and resources of CAF", Gara Gombe concluded.

Egypt 2025: Flying Eagles seek bronze compensation against Young Pharaohs

Seven-time champions Nigeria and hosts and four-time champions Egypt will both fight hard for the bronze medals when they clash in the third-place match of the ongoing Africa U20 Cup of Nations finals in Cairo on Sunday. Both teams were rated by pundits to emerge from their semi-final clashes, but the result went the other way and they are now due to play the losers’ final at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium in downtown Cairo. Morocco and South Africa will tango in a repeat of the 1997 Final, which the Atlas Cubs won 1-0 in Meknes. It is the fifth time that Nigeria, who won the title in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005, 2011 and 2015 will be playing for the bronze medals. For Egypt, it will be the fourth time. Both have won the bronze medals three times previously. Also, both Nigeria and Egypt contested the 2005 Final in Cotonou, with the Flying Eagles coming out top following a 2-0 win. Isaac Promise (of blessed memory) scored both goals. As hosts in 1995, after losing their semi final tie...
