SUPER EAGLES GAFFER: TIME TO THINK INWARD

Super Eagles Gaffer; time to look inward.

By: KAZEEM AJIBOLA S.

Years ago I advocated for our indigenous coaches to be sponsored by NFF on a Refresher course overseas, the condemnation and indignation remarks towards my stance was ridiculously appalling.

Now, within our noses, an 'overpampered' 66yrs old Gernot Rohr who is on $47,000 monthly wage, who was employed based on his acclaimed 'superior knowledge and experience compare to our Local coaches' would tentatively be on a jolly ride to his native country Germany for a Refresher course in Bayern Munich that'll be exclusively sponsored by the NFF.

Coach Emmanuel Amunike

Emmanuel Amunike and Imama Amapakabo readily comes to mind when you think about the coaches that should take over and sparehead our National team coaching crew.
Amunike did creditable well when given the opportunities to managed our cadet team winning the U17 world cup in 2015. His name has been written in the history book in far away Tanzania as he qualifed the Eastern Africa team to the Nations cup after 39years of making their debut in the competition.

Coach Imama Amapakabo

Imama is currently the U23 Head coach and one of Gernot Rohr's Assistants. He's familiar with the team and has forehand the shortfall knowledge of the team which he can work together with Amunike to correct.

I think if giving adequate and necessary support by the NFF, same unflitching respect they accord the foreign coaches, Amunike, Amapakabo (or any other coach within their rank) can move Nigeria football forward to a desirable level.

They both have vast knowledge of our league which indeed will aide the integration of home based player in the National team. Late Stephen Keshi won the AFCON with appreciable number of home based players blended with the foreign pros in 2013 and follow the same trend in Confederation cup and world cup. The template is there for a meticulous coach to follow and that should be the mandate NFF should give any incoming coach if eventually Gernot Rohr was sacked

Egypt 2025: Flying Eagles seek bronze compensation against Young Pharaohs

Seven-time champions Nigeria and hosts and four-time champions Egypt will both fight hard for the bronze medals when they clash in the third-place match of the ongoing Africa U20 Cup of Nations finals in Cairo on Sunday. Both teams were rated by pundits to emerge from their semi-final clashes, but the result went the other way and they are now due to play the losers’ final at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium in downtown Cairo. Morocco and South Africa will tango in a repeat of the 1997 Final, which the Atlas Cubs won 1-0 in Meknes. It is the fifth time that Nigeria, who won the title in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005, 2011 and 2015 will be playing for the bronze medals. For Egypt, it will be the fourth time. Both have won the bronze medals three times previously. Also, both Nigeria and Egypt contested the 2005 Final in Cotonou, with the Flying Eagles coming out top following a 2-0 win. Isaac Promise (of blessed memory) scored both goals. As hosts in 1995, after losing their semi final tie...
