GS Magna Talent Hunt Lives Up To Billing as Teams Showcase Young Talents

The maiden edition of GS Magna Future Stars scouting program is living up to its pre-tournament billings as young players exhibit exhilarating talent, skills and determinations.   The under-19 and under-16 youths tournament kicked off on Monday at the Lagacy Pitch, National Stadium, Surulere with each category having 8 and 6 participating teams respectively. After two round of group matches played in the under-19 category, Box2box FC sits comfortably at the summit of group A,  while 36 Lion Football Club and Dominion Hotspur FC with 4 points each maintain a joint leadership of group B. Afeez Aremu delighted to return to action for St. Pauli after a long-term injury layoff

 St. Pauli midfielder Afeez Aremu has expressed his delight to return from a long-term harmstring injury. Afeez Aremu in action for St. Pauli The 22-year-old suffered the injury problem in December which has since sidelined him from action. Aremu featured in 13 German Bundesliga 2 games for the Millerntor-Stadion outfit in the 2021-22 season, missing seven games at a stretch. The midfielder has been a consistent performer for St. Pauli this term. He made a return against Hannover on Sunday afternoon and has revealed his excitement.  "Not the result we wanted from yesterday game. But we keep our heads up and make things right from the upcoming games. Glad to be back on pitch again ," the Super Eagles hopeful wrote via Social Media. Aremu has been with St. Pauli since 2019 when he teamed up with the Hamburg based club from Norwegian side Ik Start. Nigeria's Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyori secured unexpected title on Sunday at the All Africa Individual Badminton Championships in Kampala, Uganda.  Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyori ìn action at the just concluded All Africa Individual Badminton Championships in Kampala, Uganda. It is Nigeria’s first major win since the crisis in the administration of badminton ensued late last year. Opeyori was Nigeria’s sole entry as his doubles’ partner; Godwin Olofua failed to show up having travelled unexpectedly to Qatar. Due to lack of funding, Nigeria was to present the three-man team that went for the Olympics comprising of Opeyori and Godwin Olofua in both the singles and doubles men’s event while Dorcas Adesokan had to be excused on account of preparation for her wedding.  That left only Opeyori as the sole competitor and was at the brink of not attending owing to the funding challenge. In a bid to build a more virile relationship with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr Habu Ahmed Gumel met with His Excellency, Thomas Bach, the President, International Olympic Committee (IOC) to discuss ways in which the IOC can aid in the development of sports in Nigeria. B/Volleyball: Arrival date for 2022 President Cup now 18th February says Melandi

The Technical Director of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Martin Melandi said the arrival date for the 2022 President Beach Volleyball Cup has been moved to 18th February. The President Beach Volleyball Cup is scheduled for 18th to 23rd February, 2022 at the twin court of Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna state. Melandi said the decision was made after due consultations from critical beach volleyball stakeholders. He maintained that there is no registration fee for the President Beach Volleyball Cup adding that only registered teams with the Federation are permitted to participate. Melandi said, "This is to inform players, coaches and the general public that the arrival date of the 2022 President Beach Volleyball Cup is on 18th of February. Beach Volleyball: Nigeria teams win gold at Zone 3 U21 Championship

Nigeria have emerged champions of the just concluded Zone 3 U21 Beach Volleyball Championship in the Boys’ and Girls’ category on Sunday. Nigeria defeated host, Benin Republic I 2-0 (21-14, 21-17) in the boys’ final while Nigeria pummeled the first team of Benin Republic 2-0 (21-11, 21-13) in the Girls’ category. The duo of Emenike Ezike and Emmanuel Udah represented Nigeria in the boys’ event while Happy Wushiland and Esther Mbah wore the colours of the country in the girls’ event. An elated Emmanuel Udah said he is looking forward to other international outings after winning his first international medal in 2022. Beach Volleyball: Nigeria U21 qualifies for Semifinals

Nigeria U21 teams have qualified for the semifinals of the ongoing Zone 3 U21 Beach Volleyball Championship in Cotonou, Benin Republic. The duo of Emenike Ezike and Emmanuel Udah (Nigeria boys), schooled Benin Republic 2-0 (21-4, 21-6) in their first match before taking Niger Republic to the cleaners 2-0 (21-11, 21-19) in their second match on Friday. The Nigeria girls team, Happy Wushiland and Esther Mbah did not waste time to dispatch Benin Republic 2-0 (21-10, 21-9) in their first match and won their second match convincingly against Ghana 2-0 (21-14, 21-8). The coach of Nigeria U21 beach volleyball team, John Iwerima expressed satisfaction over the performances of the team at the championship.
