TOKYO 2020: BE OUR WORTHY AMBASSADOR- GUMEL

President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Engineer Habu Ahmed Gumel has urged the Nigerian contingent, "Team Nigeria" who will participate at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan to be worthy ambassadors of the country.

Gumel, on his arrival at the Narita Airport in Tokyo on Sunday spoke with the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Phemmy Adetula, that all our athletes and officials are most important. In his word, "I have to congratulate every athlete representing Nigeria at this games. They are our worthy ambassadors who have toiled day and night to bring glory to our great country. As you are representing Nigeria, you are representing yourselves and your families as well. So, it's very important that you represent well. Your whereabout before, during and after the games is key to us as Nigeria Olympic Committee and we implore you to stay clean and win clean medals".


Gumel thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the fatherly role he played for making the athletes have a sense of belonging as they will be competing at the games. Also, he acknowledged the working relationship and understanding of the Honourable Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare and the NOC, saying the partnership has really geared the athletes for a wonderful outing here in Japan.


Team Nigeria with 58 athletes will compete in 9 sports at the Olympic Games starting from July 23 till August 8, 2021.

Dream Team Keeps Dream Alive

The Nigeria U23 team defeated Libya's U23 4-0 to progress to the next round of the 2019 U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as Osimhen grabs hattrick. It was a resounding victory for the Dream team as they overturned a two goal deficit suffered in the first leg. Coach Imama Amapakabo left no stone unturned as he rejigged the squad that went down in Tunis by drafting in Francis Uzoho, Osimhen, Chidozie Awaziem and Valentine Ozoruwafor from the Super Eagles to the Olympics team.
