Volleyball: Kada Kings top first phase of Division 1 League

Kada Kings finished top at the first phase of the just concluded 2021 National Division 1 Volleyball League in Kaduna State with 21 points.

Kada Kings beat Kwara United 3-1 (28-26, 25-19, 22-25, 25-10) in the men's final match at Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS) to remain unbeaten in 7 matches during the first phase.

Speaking with newsmen after the match, the Head Coach of Kada Kings, Jonathan David commended his players for not giving up in the first set despite the scorelines which seem impossible to recover.

David said the unbeaten run was made possible due to his players determination and hardwork.

"I am overexcited being unbeaten team so far in the tournament and it is due to our hardwork and determination. The first set was a bit dicey because Kwara United were leading 24-19 but the players had to give their best and we eventually won the set which was miraculous.

"I did not see Kwara as a threat but a normal team and we played a normal game but we miscalculated their tactical aspect in the third set. We picked the fourth set after the players played to our other tactics in the fourth set and you could see the result,” he said.

Meanwhile, JVC of Bauchi finished in second place with 20 points, Kwara United placed third position with 15 points, while Spartan Spikers of Yola are fourth with 13 points.

In fifth position is Katsina United with 9 points, Equity Spikers are sixth with 5 points, Caliphate Spikers of Sokoto in seventh position with 4 points, while Oyo State is placed eighth position with just a point.

The Chairman Caretaker Committee of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod expressed satisfaction with the level of organisation, the players who are the main actors, the coaches and most importantly the referees.

He applauded states and clubs who are present at the first phase of the League, appealing to other states and clubs in various locations to make themselves available for next Division 1 season.

Dream Team Keeps Dream Alive

The Nigeria U23 team defeated Libya's U23 4-0 to progress to the next round of the 2019 U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as Osimhen grabs hattrick. It was a resounding victory for the Dream team as they overturned a two goal deficit suffered in the first leg. Coach Imama Amapakabo left no stone unturned as he rejigged the squad that went down in Tunis by drafting in Francis Uzoho, Osimhen, Chidozie Awaziem and Valentine Ozoruwafor from the Super Eagles to the Olympics team. It was a tedious opening 20 minutes as the Dream team struggle to find the openings while the Libyans  comfortably held on to their defensive strategies in the scorching 33°c weather temperature in Asaba. Taiwo Awoniyi failed to capitalize on a gifted opportunity in the 14 minutes as the Libyan goalkeeper parried Nwakali's freekick to his path at a close range. But Osimhen broke the deadlock in the half-hour mark when he pounce on a rebound as the Libyan goalkeeper failed to deal with another Nwak...
