Seven uncapped players invited, a doctorine of necessity - Toyin Ibitoye

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will square up against Algeria and Tunisia on the 9th and 13th of October respectively in Austria in international friendly matches which is set as preparatory  games before the last round of AFCON qualifying matches in November.

Coach Gernot Rohr submitted his 25 man list which includes seven uncapped players without any of the regular goalkeepers making the list. A development which has raised the curioucity of football loving Nigerians and beg for cogent explanation.

The Media officer of the team Toyin Ibitoye was on hand to shed more light to the debate and clarifies the need for the invitation of the uncapped players.

Speaking on Nigeria Sports Express, on Jordan 105.5FM, Ibitoye emphasize that it was imperative to have a look at new players who are more active in their clubs as Covid19 lockdown halted the progress of some players while rendering others inactive as the case may be.

"There are a number of reasons. For example in the goalkeeping department we have injuries, we have players who are recovering from a long spell on the sideline and there is also a player who is out because of inactivity of the league.

"It's another opportunity for these players to show the qualities that have helped them to make such big moves in Europe. We are happy that they have the opportunity to come now, it give us an option and it equally gives them the opportunity  to lay claim to being part of the team.

"When a team is competitive and you have players who are of the equal quality on and off the pitch then you can talk about having a strong team. There  will always be space for good players in the Super Eagles” Ibitoye concluded.

The Super Eagles camp is expected to open on Monday as players are expected in camp after the weekend games.
