Algeria who are unbeaten in their last 18 games will square up against Super Eagles of Nigeria in an international friendly match tomorrow in Austria and will be hoping to make one pass Eagles once again. The last time the two teams filed out against each other was in AFCON semi-final match. Algeria emerged victorious, thanks to Riyahd Marhez's stoppage time stunning free-kick which ended the match 2-1. A result that propel them to the final which they eventually won 1-0 against Senegal.

Gernot Rohr while addressing Journalists via virtual press briefing on Thursday was optimistic that  Super Eagles have the depth to match the Africa champion shoulder to shoulder.

Excerpt of the interview:

He said: "Algeria are unbeaten in 18 games, we want to stop them, we hope so. They are a strong team in Africa, the champions, it will be a big test for us.

"It's a test game, we want to see our new players. The objective is to prepare for AFCON and the World Cup."

Rohr on Paul Onuachu

"Onuachu will have to adapt to the team's style of play and not the other way round.

"We can't change our style because of him, he has to adapt to our style. We don't want to play long balls, we have our style.”

On Victor Osimhen, Rohr says

"He is our leader in the attack, he has been doing well, we will miss him but of course we have to organize because this can happen in the tournament. We have a lot of strikers in the squad. We have to handle the situation."

Rohr admonish the newly invited players and expect them to blend with the team

"I want to see our new players, I want to see good football. The two games will be interesting and its a good test for us."

Nigeria will play Algeria on October 9 in their first friendly match this year before taking on Tunisia on October 13.

Egypt 2025: Flying Eagles seek bronze compensation against Young Pharaohs

Seven-time champions Nigeria and hosts and four-time champions Egypt will both fight hard for the bronze medals when they clash in the third-place match of the ongoing Africa U20 Cup of Nations finals in Cairo on Sunday. Both teams were rated by pundits to emerge from their semi-final clashes, but the result went the other way and they are now due to play the losers’ final at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium in downtown Cairo. Morocco and South Africa will tango in a repeat of the 1997 Final, which the Atlas Cubs won 1-0 in Meknes. It is the fifth time that Nigeria, who won the title in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005, 2011 and 2015 will be playing for the bronze medals. For Egypt, it will be the fourth time. Both have won the bronze medals three times previously. Also, both Nigeria and Egypt contested the 2005 Final in Cotonou, with the Flying Eagles coming out top following a 2-0 win. Isaac Promise (of blessed memory) scored both goals. As hosts in 1995, after losing their semi final tie...
