He whom God has blessed... Daniel Amokachi, The rise to stardom

Three months ago, the Nigeria football federation toyed with the idea of appointing Daniel Amokachi as NFF Director of technical but later dropped the appointment at the last minute perhaps to slight the honourable minister of youth and sports, Sunday Dare, who many felt was the brain behind his nomination.

Infact, NFF president Amaju Pinnick went on National TV to deny the news claiming that they had full confidence in Bitrus Bewarang, a man whose tenure as director technical had already expired but was allowed to continue for obvious reasons.

Just on Thursday, president Mohammadu Buhari shocked Nigerians when he confirmed Amokachi as his new special assistant on sports, a position that that reaffirms the aged long proverbial adage "REJECTED STONE, THE CORNER STONE".

Daniel Amokachi flanked by former team mates Mutiu Adepoju and Ike Shorunmu and Kola Daniel, Senior Assistance to the Sports minister.

By this appointment, Amokachi has moved miles above his contemporaries and now sits on the exalted seat of decision makers. He is now the third strongest man in sports after the honourable sports minister and the permanent secretary.

Amokachi should be on atleast 2m naira monthly salary, must be accorded all privileges given to president Buhari's special assistants and will report directly to Mr. President on all matters relating to sports.

This position gives him authority over Nigeria football as he can make suggestions to Mr. President and offer advices where necessary.

Just few months after being dressed in borrowed robes as football Ambassador, Amokachi has taken a major leap forward and now looks ready to take his rightful place as a major stakeholder in Nigeria sports.

Already, the  aggrieved and disgruntled stakeholders have started calling to congratulates him as factional heads restrategise on how to launch fresh attacks on Nigeria football.

The thinking now is that for once, the ex internationals can come together with a common voice and make their grievances known to government through their colleague and friend, Daniel the Bull, Amokachi who is now tagged as the annointed whom God has blessed, no man can curse.

Egypt 2025: Flying Eagles seek bronze compensation against Young Pharaohs

Seven-time champions Nigeria and hosts and four-time champions Egypt will both fight hard for the bronze medals when they clash in the third-place match of the ongoing Africa U20 Cup of Nations finals in Cairo on Sunday. Both teams were rated by pundits to emerge from their semi-final clashes, but the result went the other way and they are now due to play the losers’ final at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium in downtown Cairo. Morocco and South Africa will tango in a repeat of the 1997 Final, which the Atlas Cubs won 1-0 in Meknes. It is the fifth time that Nigeria, who won the title in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005, 2011 and 2015 will be playing for the bronze medals. For Egypt, it will be the fourth time. Both have won the bronze medals three times previously. Also, both Nigeria and Egypt contested the 2005 Final in Cotonou, with the Flying Eagles coming out top following a 2-0 win. Isaac Promise (of blessed memory) scored both goals. As hosts in 1995, after losing their semi final tie...
