* Dignitaries at Event Bestow Encomia on Retiree

As the Director of Sports, Kwara State Sports Council, Coach Tunde Kazeem, retired from the 35-year service to the State, the Deputy-Governor of Kwara State, Mr. Kayode Alabi, has urged the sports icon not to be disinclined in rendering services to the State anytime occasions demand because the State still needs his wealth of experience in terms of sports development even after retirement.

The Deputy-Governor gave this submission yesterday while gracing the event of retirement thanksgiving organised to celebrate meritorious service and exit of the sports doyen, held at the Indoor Sports Hall, Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

Mr. Alabi, who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mrs. Joana Nnazua Kolo, described Coach Kazeem as a versatile sports manager whose  experience, exposure and adroitness sports-wise will always be demanded  anywhere in the world.

He then stated that the State cannot afford to lose the resourcefulness in him, urging the outgone Director to always make himself available whenever the need arises to render services to the State.

He advised Kazeem not to see his retirement as the end of his engagement with the State's service, enjoining him to always keep the qualities up.

The Deputy-Governor further congratulated Coach Kazeem on a happy retirement, which he ascribed to God's grace.

He later wished the retiree a peaceful and healthy life after retirement.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Barrister Iyabo Funke Banire, assessed Coach Kazeem as a great achiever in the world of sports and a pride to Kwara State considering his numerous stellar contributions to the Sports Sector in the State.

She noted that the testimonies given so far by prominent figures at the occasion are justifications of the sports legend's excellent performance while in service.

Banire disclosed that Kazeem had convinced her of his excellence even within the short period of time she related with him, emphasising that he had set a good record, which his successor (s) must sustained and improved on, adding that his service to the State was an epitome of sheer commitment, love and professionalism.

In their different goodwill messages, the dignitaries including a former Commissioner for Sports  and Information,  former Director of Kwara State Sports Council, Ahmeed Adio, former Director of the Council, and Vice-President, Nigerian Association of Women in Sports, Mrs. Adebola Serah Esan, General Manager, Radio Kwara, Alhaji Kayode Aremu, Chairman Kwara United, Mr. Kumbi Titiloye, and others bestowed encomia on the outgone Director, revealing that he demonstrated passion for sports development during his service time and calling on those coming behind to follow suit by emulating such enviable track of records.

Speaking at the event, the guest speaker and a retired  Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Elder Ayobola Samuel, whose lecture was tagged "Life after retirement", reminded the new retiree of the challenges in retirement and the joy it gives if well  observed.

He then enumerated the tips on how to have a happy and peaceful life after retirement, praying God to continue seeing the retired Coach through in all his endeavours after service.

Coach Kazeem was profiled at the event as an international, sports connoisseur, accomplished badminton athlete, winner of numerous awards, Chairman, Nigerian Forum of Directors of Sports etc.

In his remarks, Coach Kazeem thanked God for his life especially for making him reach the height and making the occasion a reality, also appreciating all those who stood behind him during his service time and in the actualisation of the befitting thanksgiving ceremony on his retirement.

Egypt 2025: Flying Eagles seek bronze compensation against Young Pharaohs

Seven-time champions Nigeria and hosts and four-time champions Egypt will both fight hard for the bronze medals when they clash in the third-place match of the ongoing Africa U20 Cup of Nations finals in Cairo on Sunday. Both teams were rated by pundits to emerge from their semi-final clashes, but the result went the other way and they are now due to play the losers’ final at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium in downtown Cairo. Morocco and South Africa will tango in a repeat of the 1997 Final, which the Atlas Cubs won 1-0 in Meknes. It is the fifth time that Nigeria, who won the title in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005, 2011 and 2015 will be playing for the bronze medals. For Egypt, it will be the fourth time. Both have won the bronze medals three times previously. Also, both Nigeria and Egypt contested the 2005 Final in Cotonou, with the Flying Eagles coming out top following a 2-0 win. Isaac Promise (of blessed memory) scored both goals. As hosts in 1995, after losing their semi final tie...
