Speaking to journalist during the visit, Fregene's wife called on government and well meaning Nigerians to come to her husband's rescue.

"Peter Fregene served this country meritoriously with passion and utmost dedication".

"During their own time they didn't play for money rather they played for the glory of this country. It is sad and disheartening seeing him (Fregene) abandoned this way by successful football administrator in recent time because he has been in this precarious situation since 17year".

"I thank God for sparing his life because many of his former colleagues have gone through situation that is not even has deteriorated as this and has gave up the ghost. For God to still preserves his life it means God still want to use him for something great and I am calling on all well meaning Nigerians to please come to his rescue".

The wife lamented about paucity of fund has they have spent all they have to take of the ex-international thus far.

"The medical bills and other upkeeps has overstretched the family's purse. We have been in this for the past 17years, with the help of the family and few others we've been trying to take care of him but the expenses is  far beyond our reach".

The Delta state born footballer was a member of the Nigerian team that participated at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. He was also a member of the Green Eagles squad that defended the 1980 Nations Cup two years later in Libya.

Addressing the journalist at Fregene's house the Chairperson of Nigeria Eagles Supporters Club members Oluwakemi Ogunfuwa said
"We are sad to meet Pa Fregene in this kind of deteriorating health condition. Such condition does not befit a National hero".

"Apparently Nigeria Eagles Supporters Club doesn't have the financial capacity to foot his medical bills but we have come here today to show him moral support and equally contribute our widow might".

"We are using this medium to call on on all Sports Administrator, the Nigeria government and other well meaning Nigerians to please come to this rescue of this great icon".

"It is better we give him adequate support and facilitate for him proper medical access rather than waiting or him to die and begin to talk about a befitting burial".

"I know for sure that the Amaju Pinnick led board has been doing a wonderful job trying to help out some ex-internationals that are in dire situation and I call out on him to kindly extend the olive branch to Peter Fregene"
